Kwandu Muama, a Zambian eco-friendly artist, is carefully selecting pieces that best represent her sustainable approach and unique style for the upcoming UMP Evolution Festival, scheduled for October.
Muama, one of the international fine artists shortlisted for the festival, shared that she is currently researching the local art scene in Malawi. This research aims to better understand the audience’s preferences and cultural context, allowing her to deliver art that is both unique and relatable.
“I’m also focused on perfecting my presentation and storytelling to effectively communicate the message behind each piece,” Muama said in an exclusive interview. “This preparation ensures that my art resonates with the audience, highlighting the importance of sustainability and creativity.”
Muama expressed her excitement about participating in this year’s UMP Evolution Festival, noting that art has the power to inspire hope and drive positive change. She is thrilled to be part of such an incredible gathering of creatives.
“Let us continue to use our talents to promote sustainability, celebrate our cultural diversity, and foster unity across borders. Together, we can create a brighter future for our planet and our communities,” she added.
Muama is passionate about recycling discarded items and transforming them into treasures. She has been active in the industry for several years and was one of the participants in the Creative Women’s Workshop held in Lower Zambezi last year.
The three-day UMP Festival will feature six different stages showcasing a variety of talents at Cape Maclear in Mangochi District, from October 25th to 28th, 2024.
