Many fans are buzzing with the question: Is there a brewing beef between Malawian hip-hop artists Phyzix and Gwamba? Recent events involving the two have sparked speculations among fans and social media observers alike.

The controversy kicked off on September 6, when Phyzix, known for having the most albums in Malawi, dropped his latest project, Figaro 7. One track in particular, titled Niggaz, caught everyone’s attention and ignited the rumor mill.

In the song, Phyzix takes a swipe at individuals he refers to as “money launderers” who host shows in stadiums and lie about figures.

The line in question goes: “Sometimes when I kill these Niggaz, these Niggaz who think they are winners, these money launderers who do shows at stadiums to lie about figures.”

Fans were quick to speculate that the lyrics were directed at Gwamba, especially since the track was released around the time Gwamba was busy organizing his own show at Civo Stadium.

While Gwamba initially remained silent on the matter, things took a turn on Thursday, September 26. Gwamba shared a YouTube link to Phyzix’s Niggaz video, adding a caption that read, “Amazing song by Phyzix, titled Niggaz, link below.”

This seemingly innocent action raised eyebrows, with fans suspecting Gwamba’s post wasn’t out of admiration but rather a subtle jab. After all, who shares a song that’s rumored to diss them?

Shortly after Gwamba’s post, Phyzix deleted the video from YouTube, leaving fans even more curious. So far, Phyzix hasn’t commented on why he took the video down.

To add fuel to the fire, Gwamba’s close friend and fellow artist Kell Kay, commented on Gwamba’s post with: “Shaaaaaa sikupezeka2 auzeni abwezeletse ife Tayikonda 😂,” meaning “It’s been deleted, tell him to put it back, we like the song,” followed by a laughing emoji.

Fans were quick to conclude that there might be a brewing beef between the two veteran hip-hop artists, both of whom have been in the game for over a decade.

Gwamba also took to WhatsApp, posting a cryptic message: “Kodi YouTube alibe anti-delete?” (Doesn’t YouTube have an anti-delete feature?), further fueling the rumors.

Adding another layer of intrigue, Phyzix was notably absent from Gwamba’s recent Civo Stadium show—a surprise, given that he has regularly performed at Gwamba’s previous events.

Gwamba has now successfully hosted two stadium shows, one at Mzuzu Stadium and the recent one at Civo Stadium. Meanwhile, Kell Kay hosted his own major event last year at Bingu National Stadium.

Could the lines in Niggaz be about competition between the “GOAT” (as Gwamba calls himself) and the “Mountain Goat” (a title Phyzix has started using)? Some fans are speculating that the rivalry might go further back than it appears.

Only time will tell whether this is just playful banter or the beginning of a full-blown hip-hop feud.
