This week, several Malawian artists took to social media to announce that their music has been accepted for play on the international television channel, Trace TV.
Artists such as Rashley, Dan Lu, and Same Cris, among others, shared the exciting news with their followers. However, Wikise, another artist who received a similar email of acceptance, claimed that he never submitted his music to Trace TV. He warned others that the emails could be from scammers attempting to swindle artists.
“Be careful of fake emails from scammers posing as Trace TV. If you didn’t submit your video to Trace TV, they may claim to have selected your video for playback, but BEWARE – these are scammers trying to trick you into paying them,” Wikise posted.
He further revealed that he was asked to pay 50,000 Kwacha for his music to be aired. In response, Same Cris, another artist, stated that he had indeed submitted his music to the official Trace TV email and assured everyone that he was not being scammed.
“If Wikise is saying that he did not submit, that’s his issue. I submitted to the television. Have a blessed day,” Same Cris responded.
Efforts to get comments from other artists were unsuccessful. However, fans are eagerly anticipating the days when the television channel is expected to air the songs.
This development has been positively received by the music community, as it indicates that Malawian music is gaining international recognition and expanding its reach beyond the country’s borders.
