Reggae dancehall star Chizmo Njuchi, who recently released a mental health-focused project titled “Stay Alive”, has shared the motivation behind creating something so unique.

The project consists of five songs, each addressing the same crucial issue of mental health. Chizmo has also released a music video for the track “I’m Ok,” which is now available on YouTube.

In an interview, Chizmo revealed that he was inspired by the rising number of suicide cases among youth in ghetto communities, prompting him to spread a message of hope.

“Suicide cases were on the rise, and as someone who also struggles with mental health issues, I felt compelled to do something about it through my art. This project is my way of raising awareness and fighting against mental health struggles,” he explained.

Historically, reggae dancehall music has been known for advocating for individual rights in society. However, in recent years, the genre has shifted towards themes of love, parties, and gangster life.

Chizmo, a member of the Njuchi collective, felt it was essential to address something more significant through his music—a move that has been warmly received by fans.
