Veteran musician Dan Lu, who rose to fame in the early 2000s with the hit single “Shupie,” has expressed his frustration with current music promoters.

He took to social media to voice his displeasure, stating that if the situation doesn’t change, he might consider leaving the music industry altogether, refusing to bow to demands he feels are unjust.

The controversy began when one of the major promoters allegedly asked Dan Lu to pay for services that would artificially boost the YouTube views of his latest video, “Anta.” His response was direct and unequivocal:

“Go to hell with your fake views, I’m original, I don’t buy fame.”

Known as the “Malawian Bwoy,” Dan Lu also revealed that some promoters have reportedly banded together against him, spreading negative propaganda and ensuring he is not booked for shows.

He claims they have a coordinated effort to damage his reputation by only writing negative things about him and refusing to promote his work.

Fans have responded with a mix of support and concern. Some have urged Dan Lu to stay strong and ignore the haters, while others have offered their best wishes for whatever decision he makes.

“We love you, Legendary. Keep the fire of inspiration burning for us, Our One And Only King Of Afro-Pop” commented Owell the Preacher.

Dan Lu recently released a 10-track album titled “Back to My Roots,” which features collaborations with artists like Driemo, Steve Spesho, and others. The album has sparked mixed reactions. While some fans appreciate the effort, others have criticized the production quality and expressed disappointment.

Andrew Michemno Jnr shared his thoughts:

“The production and direction of some songs were not good. In some tracks, it sounded like you were performing live rather than delivering a mastered project. But overall, it’s a good album.”
