The organizer of the UMP Evolution Festival, Chitoliro Productionz, has announced that they have received over 3,000 films, which are now under review to select the best ones to be showcased at the festival, scheduled for October 25 to 28 at Cape Maclear, Mangochi.

In a press release, Chitoliro indicated that a panel of judges, consisting of experts in theatre and film, is currently reviewing the submitted films. They will compile a list of the best films for festival attendees to enjoy.

The press release stated that the submitted films include a diverse mix of feature films, short films, documentaries, animations, and student films from around the world, including Malawi.

Chitoliro further clarified that, in addition to showcasing films, the festival will recognize and award outstanding works and their creators.

Speaking to Ken Zizwa, the festival’s Executive Producer, he promised a thrilling experience, highlighting special screenings of acclaimed local productions such as Mushroom Shade, Highbrow, and Misnomer by filmmaker Chaz.

“We have acquired an inflatable projector screen, which will complement the LED screens. This only signals a thrilling film-watching experience for attendees,” Zizwa said.

The film screenings will take place at Cape Mac Lodge, with renowned actress Mwai Simbota as the host.

The festival is expected to offer exciting opportunities for networking and collaboration, fostering cultural exchange and promoting Malawian cinema.
